To me, figurative language means not literal. Two examples of figurative language are metaphors and similes.

Figurative language is idiomatic, has a comparison and some of them need experience to be understood, for example: the car ride was like a horse ride, so if you have not rode a horse before, you would not know what it is like, unless you can figure it out by the horse jerking that it means it was a bumpy ride(I know it is not a good example, but still…).
2 examples are metaphors and similies…

and Mr Grosse, there is a typo in the title, it should be FIGURATIVE not FIGURAIVE.

Figurative Language is not literal, its idiomatic, and it is also used based on some other experience experienced by the person , and it also has some similarities between the 2 words, for example :
[using kenneth's example , i couldn't think of another 1 =( ]
‘ that car ride was like a horse ride i experienced last summer ! ‘
in that statement ,
comparison – ‘ that car ride was like a horse ride ‘
experience – ‘ i experienced last summer ‘
similarity – [not in sentence] the person has said ‘ WAS LIKE’ ,
which i assume that both the car ride and horse ride, the experience was similar , probably smooth , or bumpy . therefore the similarity is seen.
all 3 [ comparison , experience , similarity ] are linked .
2 other examples or figurative language is : metaphors and similes
